Meeting Minutes

Initial/current idea

We have decided what we are going to do in our music video and have sorted out what is going to happen in the  different scenes. We have decided that all 4 of us in the group will take part in the music video and we will be the main focus. We have also decided to have 4 boys that play a role in the video and we will be auditioning boys for the role and then deciding on the final 4.
The story line of the music video is that, all the 4 girls have broken up with their boyfriends and are having relationship problems. In the music video, the audience will follow the relationship breakups of four different girls and will see they are all very much similar and having the same problems.
The music video will be performative and narrative, so as well as watching a story line develop throughout the video, there will be performative parts, where the main focus is just on the group singing.

Performative, Narrative or concept based?

Ego Lyrics

We used to go together.
Lookin after each other.
I thought that you were better,
Look at you.

(Look at you x3)

You used to be so layed back.
You always kept it so cool, (cool cool cool)
I loved you cos of all that, thats the truth.

(That's the truth x3)

I don't think you know where your head is,
I was always there to help you break the fall.

And now you wanna pretend that you a superstar,
And now you wanna us to end, whats takin you this far.
Don't tell me that your done as far as we go,
you need to have a sit down with your Ego

(Ego)

When everyone's gone and you all by yourself,
You know that you gonna come to me for help.
Don't tell me that its time for going solo you need to knock some sense into your ego

(Ego x4)

You act like you're on fire.
Living your delusion.
You just need you to take you higher.
Off you go.

(Off you go x3)

You can make the call when you're ready,
I will not be there to help you break the fall.

(Ego x4)

And when it's time for you to come back down to.
Where you started, but we parted.
I think you'll find that it is very hard to face.
Reality's a simple thing.

(Ego x4)

These are the lyrics of our song choice 'ego', from looking at the lyrics and contemplating on what type of scene we should do for each verse and who will sing what, we decided that our music video will be narrative and performative.

Final Song Choice

Today, our group had a meeting from 9.50 - 10.30 where we discussed our final song choice to make our video to. In the first half of the meeting, we decided that we will make a video to one of the Saturday's song and so we was looking at several music video's from the Saturdays. We decided that we will make our music video to either 'Ego' or 'Up'.
In the second half of the meeting we decided that the Saturday's music video 'ego' is our final song choice as everyone from our group likes the song and we all had a range of creative ideas for our music video. Also 'Ego' has more of a story line to the song that we could create for our music video whereas, 'Up' hasn't got much of a story line to it and so I think it would be a bit more difficult to create one to it. Also the  song is reasonable to lip sync to and so everyone from the group should be able to lip sync in time.

Group Proposal

This is our group proposal after merging together our individual proposals, this proposal includes all our individual song choices and ideas.

Proposal

After presenting our proposal to our class mates, we had some good, helpful feedback from the class which helped us make our final decision. Most our classmates said that they think we should do the Saturday's song 'Up' and this is because we could represent the girl group as there is four of us. We took this feedback into consideration and we all felt that the class was right and so we decided to do our music video to one of the Saturday's song.

Textual Analysis of Music Video's

Proposal

ProposalIn our group we have decided to do individual proposals and then emerge them together.

Song Choice

Our group have now decided to change the song we originally chose 'Don't know why' By SoundGirl because we felt that it was too summery and our views and opinions changed on the song, we felt that we didn't have a very strong or many creative ideas for the song so we decided that we no longer wanted to do this song.
We have now decided to choose our own songs and come up with creative ideas individually and then we will come together and put our ideas together and decide on a final song.

My song choice is Cascada - Evacuate the dance floorI chose this song because it is very upbeat and energetic and I think it would be enjoyable to make a music video to. Also I think that it will not be too hard to lip sync to and I think it would be reasonable to edit and not to difficult to know when to cut the video and not.
We would be able to get a few creative ideas for this music video and then put all our ideas together to make a successful and enjoyable music video.

Research into music videos of similar genre

This is an A2 music video which I have learnt a few things of what to do and what not to do in my music video. The song chosen for this video is 'Issues' by The Saturdays which is of similar genre to our chosen song. Even though the song for this video is not very up beat or lively, it is still pop music which is similar to our chosen song.
I don't think this music video is the best because the quality of the camera was poor and we was unable to completely see their faces and the scene, it didn't give much detail, they also did not do any lip syncing and so this made their music video look less realistic.

This music video created by a group of students used Katy Perry's song 'Hot n Cold' which is of similar genre to our chosen song as they are both pop music. This music video was good as they used a different range camera angles and shots and the lip syncing was also good. Also the story line of the music video was good as it was realistic and enjoyable to watch.

This music video was also quite good as again a different range of camera angles and shots were used and the lip syncing was quite good. Also the quality of the camera was good, as everything was clear and detailed.

Final chosen song

SoundGirl- I don't know why

The song 'I don't know why' by SoundGirl is the song we chose for our music video. We decided to choose this song because it's very energetic, lively and upbeat. We also felt we would be able to lip sync to the song as its not to fast or slow which is ideal. Also, the group and song are not very big or popular as other groups such as 'The Saturdays' or 'Girls Aloud' and so it should not be too difficult to create a music video for our chosen song.

Music Video Research

This sugababes song was also considered for our music video, as it is a girl group and is quite upbeat however we did not think it would be the best song to use as it would be quite hard to re-create the music video in our own way as this is a popular music video.

Music Video Research

We also considered Destiny Childs song 'Lose my Breath' for our music video as it is very lively and upbeat however we did not choose this song because we felt that the music video would be hard to create as their music video for their song is very popular and well known.

Music Video Research

The Pussy Cat dolls 'Beep' song was a song we was considering making our music video for as it is quite upbeat and lively. Also it looked like quite a fun and enthusiastic song to make a music video to. However after considering factors like being able to lip sync and creating a good enough video, we felt that this was not the song to create a music video to as it was quite slow and would be quite a hard song to create a video to because of their famous recent video to the song.

Analysis of Magazine Adverts

Madonna's Magazine Advert

The magazine advert for Madonna’s album is very bright and colourful, the background colour of the advert is a dark pink with light pink and white swirls and slashes which gives a crazy look to the audience suggesting she is an artist who is lively and creates music and music videos which make her come across as mad and outgoing. Madonna stands out in this advert as she is wearing mainly black and is also wearing a big gold belt around her waist. The black colour of her outfit with the accessory of a huge gold belt makes her look aggressive and hard and the type of woman that would fight her own battles.
The colour of the font is a bold white and blue, the writing is mainly a white colour with the outline of the writing highlighted with a light blue colour. The font really stands out as it is bright and bold but still manages to fit in with the advert, the font makes the album appear as quite upbeat and loud because of the way how the font is just standing out in a bold font to the audience.
The albums name is ‘Hard Candy” which supports that the colours of the background and clothing and the way the background is represented give a crazy look and suggests Madonna is a women with a masculine side that gives her a ‘hard’ and ‘aggressive’ look.
Also the phrase ‘No one’s gonna stop her now’ at the bottom corner of the advert also shows that she is a determined artist that will make her way to the top of the charts with her music and no one will be able to stop her.

Madonna is the main object of this advert as she is obviously the artist of the album, she expresses what her album is like and what the main theme is through her posture in the image and from what she is wearing and the colours of the advert. Madonna’s clothing is quite revealing and sexy but at the same time giving out a message she has a masculine side to her which shows she is not all girly.  Her costume is a tight leather body suit with a gold belt which is like a championship belt that someone would win in a fight or boxing so again goes to show that she has some aggression in her.  She is sitting on a chair with her legs wide apart and pulling tight a black piece of elastic. The way she is sitting shows her masculine side as women sit with their legs crossed or together whilst men sit with their legs apart, however it also gives of a sexy look showing as she can be feminine as she is seductively looking as if she is going to bite the black elastic she is pulling tight by her mouth. This may be done to attract male attention.

The target audience of this Album are adults aged around 20 -30’s and also teenagers, however I think her album appeals more to people older and near her age as she creates music which appeal more to adults.

The genre of this album is pop and is evident by the colour of the advert, and the way she is represented in the image.

Rihanna's Magazine Advert

Rihanna’s magazine advert is completely black and white giving quite an emo and gothic look.  This is a completely different look to her previous albums and magazine album adverts, as they are more feminine and sexy. The colour of this advert represents that her songs are quite crazy and dark and slow, meaning that the music is not that upbeat and are quite rocky. ‘Russian Roulette’ and ‘Hard’ are the name of two popular songs on her album, which are coloured in red. This makes these words stand out as they are a different colour to the rest of the album as the words have colour to them. This colour highlights that the two popular songs are on the album.
The font of the writing is quite gothic, again representing the album as quite dark and rocky and giving Rihanna a completely new look to what she has been previously perceived and represented as.

Rihanna is the main object of this advert giving quite a deep, scary look and her pose in the image gives a mysterious and dominant look. Rihanna comes across as quite rocky and gothic in this magazine advert because of the dark colours used, and because of her make- up and style. Her make-up is heavy and dark making her look scary and the way she is looking directly into the camera with one of her hands covering half of her face makes her look suspicious and as if she’s hiding something.

The target audience for Rihanna’s album is for teenagers and young adults but particularly aimed at people around the age of 13-30 but also appeals to younger people such as children aged 8-12.
The genre of this advert is rocky and this shown through her posture and sense of style and the way the advert is presented with the dark colours and font.

Mika's Magazine Advert

This is a magazine advert for the male artist Mika, the advert is very colourful and crazy which represents his personality and style. The magazine advert is very unusual and different to other artists magazine adverts as the advert is mainly focused on the main image of themselves. Mika’s magazine advert is more based on about him and his album and so is shown through a cartoon picture.
There is a cartoon image of a typical boy’s bedroom with a messy floor and the walls full of posters. The background of the advert is black and grey as the background is of space and so the background is black and covered with planets and stars.
The way everything is laid out and the use of different colours give a crazy and mad look suggesting Mika is a wild, lively but enthusiastic artist and it also shows that his album is upbeat and lively too.
There is a small image of Mika in black and white which looks like a poster hovering loosely in the bedroom. The black and white image of him makes him stand out from the colourful bedroom.

Mika’s name on the magazine advert stands out as it is quite big and in 3D and is mainly white with the outline of the letters coloured blue. Mika is written in big 3D blocks and so it also looks like it spells ‘Ivica’ which he may have been aiming for his audience to spot as it may stand for something.

The target audience for his album would be young adults and adults who are quite creative and enjoy upbeat and crazy music, I don’t think his music would be targeted at or appeal to teenagers or adults who like to go out a lot and like to party a lot.

Music video research LMFAO

This is LMFAO's recent music video, this music video has a story line to it, which continued on from a previous music video. This music video seems like a good music video to remake as it would be fun and creative.

Music Video Research

This is Saturday's music video notorious, while researching this video I found that it is quite lively and  upbeat and there are many different shots that are used to make the video realistic and appealing to the viewers.  This would be a good song to create our music video for as it represents us four members as lively and party people.

Researched Digipaks

Katy Perry’s Digipak has three fold out panels, which have two main pictures of her with one on the right hand side panel and one on the left hand side panel with the CD in the middle panel. The digipak also has a die-cut slot in one of the panels where a booklet of pictures and lyrics are held.
The colour of the Digipak is a subtle black, which makes her images stand out and makes the colours on her self and her clothing bright and colourful. The black background suggests that she is dominant and quite powerful and influential in her own ways.

The colours of her makeup give her a stern, fiery but sexy look suggesting she is someone who is dominant and rebellious but sweet and looks as if she is the kind of person who would do something she shouldn’t.
The red lipstick gives out a sexy and sophisticated look whilst the dark makeup on the eyes makes her look very serious and fearless.
The colour of the red and white swirly CD suggests that her music and herself is quite sweet, bubbly and hot, the music connotes who she is as a person and this is represented from the colours and format of the CD.

The images of her are quite provocative and revealing maybe aiming to attract male attention to her digipak. The images give the audience a feel that there are two sides to the pop artist. The dark background and stern look with the sexy makeup suggests she has a dominant side to her whilst the bright colours, revealing pictures and the candy suggest she is sweet and innocent.
The front cover of her digipak is an image of her laying on her front naked on fluffy pink candyfloss, which is represented as clouds. A lot of the props in the images are made from candy which represents her as a sweet, loving, innocent person.
The mid-shot image of Katy Perry wearing a crown and necklace made out of candy suggests that she is in power and she is a powerful female artist who is queen of pop.
Also behind the CD on the middle layer is a background image of a stack of cakes which again represents Katy Perry as sweet and her music as quite calm but others can be quite lively too.

The genre is evident as the images, the way she is dressed and the presentation of the album represents pop music because it wouldn’t come across as classical or R&B as the album and Katy Perry come across as an enthusiastic, fun lively singer which most pop stars are like.

The target audience are teenagers and young adults both boys and girls. I think teenage girls would be a majority of the audience as they can relate to her music and Katy Perry and she is an inspiration to may teenage girls.

Rihanna’s Digipak consists of three panels which has the CD in the middle panel, a low angle shot of her standing in front of a doorway on the right hand-side panel and a paragraph of writing with a background image of Rihanna leaning up against the door and pictures of previous albums at the bottom on the left panel.

The colour of the album is brown, orangey and bronzy colours, which are all warm colours, which give a sense of relaxation and a summery feeling. The image on the left panel is a low angle shot of Rihanna from her waist and upwards with her looking straight into the camera and with a pose where she is holding onto something like the doorframes or wall and slightly leaning her body forward.
The low angle shot and her posture suggests she is dominant and powerful as she is staring into the camera and seems taller to us suggesting she is a powerful R&B pop star. Also the way she is posing also gives the audience a sexy and seductive look about her and also portrays some innocence as her facial expressions suggests innocence.
Part of her hair covers her face suggesting she is mysterious or hiding something as it loosely hangs over her face hiding part of her face and eye.
The cream dress skimpy dress is very revealing as it shows her zebra bikini top underneath and shows a lot of her skin, this again gives a sexy look maybe aiming to gain male attention towards the album.
Rihanna’s CD is just a plain black colour CD with her record companies logo on it and her name written in purple to makes her name stand out .

The left side panel has a big paragraph of writing about her herself and her music which suggests she is aiming to give her target audience an insight on her and her music. The writing is in white so it is easy for the audience to be able to read as the background is a black/bronzy colour, it also makes the writing stand out to make the audience want to read it.
The pictures of previous albums at the bottom of the left panel are ways of promoting her other albums as well as her current Digipak and showing the audience the other range of digipaks/albums the audience can purchase.
The background picture of the left panel is a long shot of Rihanna standing in the doorway of with her bank leaning against the wall and her arm stretched out across the door which looks as if she is blocking the doorway which seems to lead to a room or something. This again suggests dominance as the shot is slightly low angle.

The target audience of Rihanna’s digipak are both male and females in their teenage years and young adults who are into R&B. It is aimed at girls as many teenage girls are into R&B and can relate to some of her songs and also Rihanna wants to be an inspiration to many girls. It is also aimed at boys as boys also like R&B and the sexy postures and images are to attract male attention to her digipak.
The genre is evident as the stylish sexy look of Rihanna shows that she produces R&B music as most female artists who create R&B music come across sexy, mysterious, stylish etc.

The digipak is successful maybe due to the presentation of the album and the quality of the CD and the interesting information she has written about her music.

Justin Timberlake’s album is a lot more simple and the colours are very basic. The digipak has three layers with the CD in the middle layer, a medium shot of him with images of his previous albums on the left panel and a big paragraph of writing about himself and music career with an image of him singing from one of his concerts.

The colour of the background on the digipak is mainly black which suggests that Justin is a powerful artist and creates music that is also just as powerful and attracts the audience. The colour black is also a meaning of authority, so the black background may suggest that Justin Timberlake has some kind of authority in the pop star world.
The background colour of the middle layer is a beige/light browny colour which makes the black CD stand out.

The right panel has mainly writing on it which is white so it stands out on the black background and is easy for the audience to read. There is also a picture of Justin Timberlake singing from one of his concerts. He is wearing a white suite which suggests purity and cleanliness and is wearing a black tie and gloves which again suggests power. The picture also shows he is a devoted artist who enjoys singing and creates his songs by heart and aims to satisfy his audience and fans.

The left panel is a medium shot of Justin Timberlake, this shot denotes him looking to the side and doing some kind of sign with his fingers. It connotes that he is quite an emotional singer who sings a lot of love songs. In this image he is wearing a black suit and so represents his power and dominance. There are also images of his previous albums which are used to promote them as well as the current digipak.

The target audience are both boys and girls both teenage and adult. I think more of the audience will be girls as Justin Timberlake is an attractive artist who is well known for his great songs and many love songs. However there are still many male fans who listen to Justin Timberlake and support him.

The genre of Justin Timberlake is R&B and Pop and this is evident due to the presentation and layout of his album. Justin Timberlake is presented as a very stylish and passionate singer who would come across as R&B and pop.
