Music Video Research

We also considered Destiny Childs song 'Lose my Breath' for our music video as it is very lively and upbeat however we did not choose this song because we felt that the music video would be hard to create as their music video for their song is very popular and well known.

Music Video Research

The Pussy Cat dolls 'Beep' song was a song we was considering making our music video for as it is quite upbeat and lively. Also it looked like quite a fun and enthusiastic song to make a music video to. However after considering factors like being able to lip sync and creating a good enough video, we felt that this was not the song to create a music video to as it was quite slow and would be quite a hard song to create a video to because of their famous recent video to the song.

Analysis of Magazine Adverts

Madonna's Magazine Advert

The magazine advert for Madonna’s album is very bright and colourful, the background colour of the advert is a dark pink with light pink and white swirls and slashes which gives a crazy look to the audience suggesting she is an artist who is lively and creates music and music videos which make her come across as mad and outgoing. Madonna stands out in this advert as she is wearing mainly black and is also wearing a big gold belt around her waist. The black colour of her outfit with the accessory of a huge gold belt makes her look aggressive and hard and the type of woman that would fight her own battles.
The colour of the font is a bold white and blue, the writing is mainly a white colour with the outline of the writing highlighted with a light blue colour. The font really stands out as it is bright and bold but still manages to fit in with the advert, the font makes the album appear as quite upbeat and loud because of the way how the font is just standing out in a bold font to the audience.
The albums name is ‘Hard Candy” which supports that the colours of the background and clothing and the way the background is represented give a crazy look and suggests Madonna is a women with a masculine side that gives her a ‘hard’ and ‘aggressive’ look.
Also the phrase ‘No one’s gonna stop her now’ at the bottom corner of the advert also shows that she is a determined artist that will make her way to the top of the charts with her music and no one will be able to stop her.

Madonna is the main object of this advert as she is obviously the artist of the album, she expresses what her album is like and what the main theme is through her posture in the image and from what she is wearing and the colours of the advert. Madonna’s clothing is quite revealing and sexy but at the same time giving out a message she has a masculine side to her which shows she is not all girly.  Her costume is a tight leather body suit with a gold belt which is like a championship belt that someone would win in a fight or boxing so again goes to show that she has some aggression in her.  She is sitting on a chair with her legs wide apart and pulling tight a black piece of elastic. The way she is sitting shows her masculine side as women sit with their legs crossed or together whilst men sit with their legs apart, however it also gives of a sexy look showing as she can be feminine as she is seductively looking as if she is going to bite the black elastic she is pulling tight by her mouth. This may be done to attract male attention.

The target audience of this Album are adults aged around 20 -30’s and also teenagers, however I think her album appeals more to people older and near her age as she creates music which appeal more to adults.

The genre of this album is pop and is evident by the colour of the advert, and the way she is represented in the image.

Rihanna's Magazine Advert

Rihanna’s magazine advert is completely black and white giving quite an emo and gothic look.  This is a completely different look to her previous albums and magazine album adverts, as they are more feminine and sexy. The colour of this advert represents that her songs are quite crazy and dark and slow, meaning that the music is not that upbeat and are quite rocky. ‘Russian Roulette’ and ‘Hard’ are the name of two popular songs on her album, which are coloured in red. This makes these words stand out as they are a different colour to the rest of the album as the words have colour to them. This colour highlights that the two popular songs are on the album.
The font of the writing is quite gothic, again representing the album as quite dark and rocky and giving Rihanna a completely new look to what she has been previously perceived and represented as.

Rihanna is the main object of this advert giving quite a deep, scary look and her pose in the image gives a mysterious and dominant look. Rihanna comes across as quite rocky and gothic in this magazine advert because of the dark colours used, and because of her make- up and style. Her make-up is heavy and dark making her look scary and the way she is looking directly into the camera with one of her hands covering half of her face makes her look suspicious and as if she’s hiding something.

The target audience for Rihanna’s album is for teenagers and young adults but particularly aimed at people around the age of 13-30 but also appeals to younger people such as children aged 8-12.
The genre of this advert is rocky and this shown through her posture and sense of style and the way the advert is presented with the dark colours and font.

Mika's Magazine Advert

This is a magazine advert for the male artist Mika, the advert is very colourful and crazy which represents his personality and style. The magazine advert is very unusual and different to other artists magazine adverts as the advert is mainly focused on the main image of themselves. Mika’s magazine advert is more based on about him and his album and so is shown through a cartoon picture.
There is a cartoon image of a typical boy’s bedroom with a messy floor and the walls full of posters. The background of the advert is black and grey as the background is of space and so the background is black and covered with planets and stars.
The way everything is laid out and the use of different colours give a crazy and mad look suggesting Mika is a wild, lively but enthusiastic artist and it also shows that his album is upbeat and lively too.
There is a small image of Mika in black and white which looks like a poster hovering loosely in the bedroom. The black and white image of him makes him stand out from the colourful bedroom.

Mika’s name on the magazine advert stands out as it is quite big and in 3D and is mainly white with the outline of the letters coloured blue. Mika is written in big 3D blocks and so it also looks like it spells ‘Ivica’ which he may have been aiming for his audience to spot as it may stand for something.

The target audience for his album would be young adults and adults who are quite creative and enjoy upbeat and crazy music, I don’t think his music would be targeted at or appeal to teenagers or adults who like to go out a lot and like to party a lot.
